This chair as turned away by another area repair shop. They told the customer it could only be a decorative piece if they repaired it. Luckily, the chair found its way here and I repaired it properly. It was no small effort, but it was strong and beautiful in the end.

I see all kinds of broken chairs...

These end tables used to be the outer sections of a vanity, but came in on their own. At some point, someone cut the legs shorter on one of them. New legs were made and some finish work done so they would match.
|
This rocking chair had a number of issues including a major fracture and poor support for seat.
|
|
These pieces were damaged by careless movers, but many of the fractures happened where previous repairs had been poorly executed.
|
This table was the better of the two, but it still had three broken legs.
The second end table had a missing leg, two broken legs, and a detached top.
A new leg was made and finished to match.

This Bergere chair was one of the most extensive repair jobs I have undertaken. It collapsed under someone, but the damage began long before that happened. It was decimated by wood beetles, and very weak. A long process of reinforcing the internal fibers was followed by a lot of tedious repair
|
The chair frame had been taped together when I received it, the pegged cane was hanging, and there were multiple breaks in the wood.
This photo illustrates just how extensive the breaks were; a lot of effort is needed when there is this much damage.

The missing material was rebuilt and finished to blend into the surrounding area.
This table's support system broke on both sides when it was forced down to the lower position. In addition, the top was marred and damaged. The damaged pieces were replaced, and the top rubbed out and polished.

This chair's arm had been chewed by a dog. After the arm was repaired, the entire chair was properly cleaned and polished.

This bottom half of this executive's chair was gone. I crafted a section to replace the missing material. |
Someone punched a hole in the side of this cabinet!

This chair's leg was broken at an odd angle, but was extremely strong when repaired. |

This clock was missing its right carved ribbon. I carved a mahogany mirror image of the other side.

This drawer flew out of the back of the truck on it's way home from a store.

Broken joints, fractured seat, missing pieces - this chair was a mess! Not anymore.
|
|
|
These chairs all had split seats and loose joints everywhere. After repairs, each chair was cleaned and polished.
|
This rocking chair was broken, banged up, and much of the original finish had chipped off. While I tried to retain as much of the original material as possible, some new finish was applied and areas re-stenciled. The seat got most of the attention as it was really beat up.
|
In addition to the repairs, the chair was refinished. |

This bed was poorly constructed to begin with, so it's no surprise that it snapped. The cheap particle board used originally was replaced with solid wood and new mounting blocks were made. |
|
A gentleman from Texas sent me this gate leg. It had been damaged in a move and was broken. I used new cherry to replace the missing material and make the leg functional once again. |

This bed foot board was shipped to the customer from Italy, but not packed well at all. One of the legs had been previously (very poorly) repaired with a lot of nails and glue. It snapped and cracked during shipment. It was properly repaired with no evidence of damage. |
|
This chair was falling apart. It appears that the back was forced too far and the joints just snapped. I repaired the joints by replacing the tenons. |

Antique Plant Stand
As this plant stand was passed down through
the generations,
many coats of paint and varnish had been applied.
There were
12 coats of paint to get through (including a layer
of aluminum paint!).
The split top was repaired and the entire piece refinished. |

Rocking Chair Refinishing / Custom Part
Construction
This rocking chair was missing two of the
slats in the back. I duplicated
the originals using antique planes and shaves. All
joints were reinforced
and the chair was refinished. |
